Homeopathic

Atropine, as the most active principle in Belladonna, produces most of the characteristic effects of that drug, but at the same time the two are not identical. Atropine has shown an affinity for the pancreas, which relates it to Lod., Kali-i., and Iris. It can produce a hypersensitivity of the sensory nerves.

Numerous eye symptoms. All kinds of illusions of vision. Motes seen over everything. All kinds of illusions of sight. Everything appears large (Plat. opposite). On reading, words run together, double vision, all objects seem to be elongated.

Clarke once cured with Atro. a woman who had an appearance of shadows passing over whatever she looked at.

Difficulty of speech. Frequent stuttering, especially at difficult to pronounce words. Indistinct articulation, rapid and chattering.

Great dryness of throat, almost impossible to swallow. Chronic stomach disorders with great pain and vomiting of all food. Peritonitis. Hypochlorhydria, heartburn. Eustachian tube and tympanic congestion. Affinity for the pancreas. Hyperacidity of stomach. Paroxysm of gastric pain, ovarian neuralgia.

Mind

Sad and morose, preferring solitude and a dark room to society of friends. Fear of her condition being observed. Meddlesome. Mistakes in localities, in time. Rambling speech. Speech embarrassed, loud, slow, unintelligible in sleep. Wandering thoughts. Mirthful.

Frightful delirium. Delusions, sees frightful images. Delusions, sees people in room at bedside. Delusions, familiar things seem strange. Answers to imaginary questions. Refuses obstinately to swallow anything or to answer questions in any way other than by a grunt.

Back

Constant burning in back. Large portion of spine so sensitive that she cried out on pressure. Painful affections from spinal irritation.

Chest

Burning under sternum.

Ears

Morbid sensitiveness to sounds and objects.

Eyes

Sharp neuralgic pains in and about eyes. Neuralgic pain. Eyelids heavy and difficult to keep open. Corneal ulcers with spasmodic winking. Irritability of eye. Conjunctivitis with lachrymation. Dim vision with dilated pupils. Vertical diplopia, apparent object below real one.

Face

Deep red distorted face. Deathly pallor.

Female

Severe cutting or drawing pains in left ovary, extorting screams, must bend double. Left ovary swollen and tender during menses. Puerperal convulsions.

Food

Appetite often considerable, sometimes absent. Thirst after vomiting.

Head

Periodical headache, coming on suddenly, increasing rapidly, until intensely severe. Dull pain in temples. Sticking pain in back of skull and over eyes, worse with every motion, stepping. Severe headache beginning in occiput, passing over right side, locating over eyes. Headache with flushing of face and head. Headache with rush of blood to head. Sensation as if head were screwed up. Headache of epileptics. Headache with great weakness.

Kidneys

Congestive states of kidneys. Chronic albuminuria. Involuntary urination, but scanty discharge of urine.

Limbs

Throwing about limbs. Spasms worse when disturbed. Gouty affection of right wrist, with stiffness. Clenching of thumbs. Involuntary movements of hands towards head. Locomotor ataxia. Edema of legs.

Mouth

Pappy taste. Dryness of mouth and throat. Unability to speak from dryness of mouth, tongue nearly adherent to roof of mouth. Dryness of mouth after two hours suddenly gave way to a viscid, acrid secretion, very highly offensive odor.

Rectum

Diarrhea with constipation. During stool, felt badly weak, terribly nervous, with general sweat.

Sleep

Drowsiness with tendency to quiet dreams and delirium. Somnolence with nervous startings. Prolonged yawning. Restless sleep, sleeps only towards morning. Sleep much disturbed by gastric pains. Starting as if frightened on falling asleep.

Stomach

Constant burning under stomach. Constant retching and empty eructations, immediately after eating. Nausea with pressure at stomach. Vomiting of food. Fluttering in stomach. Vomiting seldom with nausea. Vomiting at times extremely violent. Stomach very sensitive to pressure.

Teeth

Grinding of teeth.

Throat

Burning from coughing. Dark red, husky hue. Difficult swallowing from great dryness. Voice husky. Dryness of larynx causes dry cough and difficult swallowing.

Tongue

Tongue seems partially paralyzed, speech indistinct, rapid and chattering. Tongue hard, parched and cracked. Tongue coated white.

Vertigo

Vertigo on rising in morning. Vertigo on turning head suddenly.

Relations

It antidotes: Muscarine and Op. It is antidoted by: Op. and Phys. Compare: Like Bell., it is a right-side medicine.
