An unusual dryness of skin follows the bite. Œdematous swellings and periodical neuralgia. Pain travels from one part to another). Other snake poisons, notably Lachesis . Trachinus ,-Stingfish (intolerable pains, swelling, acute blood, poisoning, gangrene).

Yellow viper. Vipera jaune. Fer-de-lance of the island of Martinique. N. O. Crotalidæ. Solution of the poison in glycerine; attenuations in rectified spirit.
Clinical

Blindness. Bones, necrosis of. Day-blindness. Gangrene. Hæmorrhages. Lungs, congestion of. Tongue, paralysis of.

Characteristics

The most peculiar symptoms of Bothrops, for which Ozanam is the authority, are these: Amaurosis. Day-blindness."can scarcely see her way after sunrise." Inability to articulate without any affection of the tongue. Hæmorrhages, the blood being fluid and black. All the symptoms of pulmonary congestion, oppressed breathing and bloody expectoration, more or less profuse. Paralysis of one arm or one leg only. After being bitten in the little finger of one hand, paralysis began in the finger-tips of the other hand and extended over the whole of that side. Deep gangrene, bones laid bare and necrotic. Intolerable pain in right great toe (patient bitten in left thumb). The diagonal course of symptoms is marked. Hemiplegia. Dissecting gangrene. Slight shivering followed by very profuse cold sweat.

The venom of the yellow viper is a coagulant; therefore, it is expected to be useful in thrombosis and thrombotic disorders.

After being bitten in the little finger of one hand, paralysis began in the fingertips of the other hand and extended over the whole of that side. Intolerable pain in the right great toe (patient bitten in left thumb). Marked diagonal course of symptoms.

Great lassitude and sluggishness. Nervous trembling. Syncope. Sudden or rapid debility and emaciation. Slight shivering, followed by profuse sweat. Aphasia, inability to articulate, without any tongue problems. Hemiplegia, with aphasia. Paralysis of one arm or one leg only.

MIND

Persistent hypochondriasis. Mental symptoms after having a stroke. Behaves as if he had a stroke. Aphasia, inability to articulate. Forgetful of words while speaking. Mistakes using wrong words. Stupefaction, as if intoxicated. Anguish. Stupor, syncope. Unconsciousness. Coma.

Mouth

Trismus. Aphasia, inability to articulate words, while the tongue retains all its functions.

Nerves

Hemiplegia. Nervous trembling.

Perspiration

Clammy sweats. Profuse sweats. Chills with abundant sweats. Abundant cold sweats at the beginning and end of the malady.

Rectum

Tympanitis and bloody stools.

Skin

Formication and itching. Burning pains. Skin bluish, as from deep and extensive contusion. Skin yellow, as in yellow fever. Blackish skin. Swollen, livid skin. Cold with hemorrhagic infiltration. Anthrax. Gangrene. Lymphatics swollen. Malignant erysipelas. Septic wounds and ulcers. Scars, bleeding and break open. Wounds heal slowly.

Sleep

Tendency to sleep, somnolence; coma. Deeper and deeper until death.

Stomach

Intense hematemesis. Epigastric distress. Nausea and vomiting. Black vomiting. Gastric mucosa is red and dotted.

Temperature

Septic fever. Coldness. General heat. Chills with abundant sweats.

Throat

Red, dry, constricted, swallowing difficult, cannot pass liquids.

COMMENTS

The main idea of Bothrops is thrombosis and phlebitis. Tendency to form blood clots (Lach.).

Eilayaga used this remedy for clots in the legs, specifically for clots that form in the veins in the legs and then go somewhere else. Also for "milk leg": phlebitis in nursing women.
