Homeopathic
Bar-c. is especially indicated in infancy and old age. Dwarfish children and childish old people. Elderly people who are overweight. It has cured a case of fetid foot sweat with spells of despondency, seeking solitude, sobbing and crying.
Bar-c. has cured tumors of several kinds. Induration in the breasts. Sarcoma in neck with burning. Fatty tumors, especially about the neck. Swelling and induration of glands.
Has cured baldness in young people, tinea, wens. The scalp is very sensitive to touch. Enlarged glands in occiput and neck. It has proved curative in the habitual colic of children who do not thrive, enlarged mesenteric glands. Hungry, but refuses food, painful swallowing.
It's a cardio-vascular poison acting on the muscular coats of heart and vessels. Arterial fibrosis. Blood vessels soften and degenerate, become distended and aneurysms, ruptures and apoplexies result.
Affects glandular structures and is useful in general degenerative changes, especially in coats of arteries and senility. Many cases of aneurysm have been cured with Bar-c. It corresponds to the atheromatous condition.
For those liable to take cold easily, sore throat from cold, glandular disorders. There is a tendency to enlargement of the glands with indurations, especially tonsils, cervical and prostate. Takes cold easily and then always have swollen tonsils. Catarrh of posterior sinuses with frequent nosebleeds.
This remedy brings aid to scrofulous children, if they are backward mentally and physically. Dull and apathetic. Down's syndrome, delayed development. Marasmus. Dwarfish, they do not grow and develop. Scrofulous ophthalmia with a swollen abdomen. Persons subject to quinsy, which is prone to suppurate, gums bleed easily.
Diseases of old men when degenerative changes begin in cardiac and cerebral vascular. Old men who have enlarged prostate or indurated testes. Offensive foot sweats. Very sensitive to cold. Very weak and weary, must sit or lie down or lean on something. Averse to meeting strangers.
Often useful in the dyspepsia of the young who have masturbated and who suffer from seminal emissions together with cardiac irritability and palpitations. Cysts. Sarcoma with burning. Vascular softening and dilation, aneurysm, ruptures, strokes. Lipomas, fatty tumors. Emaciation of persons who were well nourished. Prostration, weariness, constant inclination to lie down, sit or lean on something. Upper half of the body feels stiff and numb. Too tired even to eat. Paralytic effects.
Mind
Increasing mental weakness. Beclouded mind. Difficult concentration. Irresolution. Confusion. Idiocy. Senile dementia. Slow mental grasp. Loss of memory tries to recollect past events. Idiocy. Whining mood. Silly, absurd. Mental retardation. Children cannot remember to learn. Slow in learning to talk. Difficult concentration in children. Talking mania during menses in young girls. Child does not want to play but sits in the corner doing nothing. Excessively busy, without any aim.
Anxiety about future. Anxiety about domestic affairs. Censorious, critical. Conscientious about trifles. Grief over trifles. Suspicious that people are talking about her. Abdomen
Habitual colic of children who do not thrive and though apparently hungry refuse food. Children with large abdomen. Hard and tense, tender, distended with emaciation of body. Colicky pains. Pain in abdomen swallowing food. Colic with hunger, but food is refused. As if intestines fell from one side to the other on turning in bed. Mesenteric glands hard and swollen.
Back
Burning in back. Glands swollen in nape and occiput. Weakness of spine. Pulsation in back after emotions. Bruised pain between scapulae. Indurated cervical glands, like knotted cords. Stiffness in sacrum. Throbbing in back after emotions. Fatty tumors upon the neck. Chronic torticollis. Itching on lumbar region. Cramp in neck.
Causations
In effects of checked foot sweat. Vaccinations.
Chest
Sharp pain in chest, worse inspiration. Pains in the chest, mitigated partly by belching and by external heat. Sensation of soreness in the chest. Fullness and pressive heaviness, especially when ascending. Chest as if sore when coughing. Pain in axillary glands, which are swollen. Chest sensitive to pressure. Itching and burning stinging in moist, pustular eruption on chest.
Constitutions
Marked influence on the growth especially of children and old people, who become childish. In children, the growth is retarded, they become dwarfish mentally and physically. Children are late coming into maturity to take on their responsibilities and do their work. It is a remedy for early senility and when degenerative changes in old men begin in heart, brain and vascular system.
Cough
Dry suffocative cough in old people, full of mucus but lacking strength to expectorate. Cough after getting feet wet, or least exposure to cold air. Cough is worse every change of weather (Seneg.). Cough worse in the presence of strangers, eating warm food. Chronic cough, in scrofulous children, with swollen glands and enlarged tonsils.
Ears
Hardness of hearing. Crackling noise, worse swallowing, walking. Glands around ears painful and swollen. Itching in ears. Eruptions on lobes of ears. Emption on and behind ears. Suppuration of middle ear. Reverberation on blowing nose. Roaring in right ear. Buzzing and jingling.
Eyes
Burning and pressure in eyes after exerting vision. Feeling of sand in eyes. Redness of conjunctiva, with swollen lids. Itching in eyes. Photophobia. Pressure deep in eyes, better looking downward. Light dazzles and hurts eyes. Opaque cornea. Agglutination of lids. Eyelids are granular, thickened. Pupils dilate and contract quickly. Cataracts (Calc-p., Phos., Sil.).
Face
Expression stupid and vacant, always whining. Tension as from a cobweb (Alum.). Sensation as if white of egg had dried on face. Parotitis after scarlatina. Face deep red with purple lips and great congestion of the blood. Prosopalgia. Eruption on the face. Lips dry and cracked. Swelling of upper lip, with burning pain. Lips pendulous. Acute pain in the joint on closing the jaws. Swelling of the submaxillary glands, with induration.
Female
Amenorrhea. Menses scanty, but only one day. Before menses, pain in stomach and lumbar back. Menses of long duration. Tearing pain in vulva. Leucorrhea, immediately before menses. Genitals feel numb. Atrophy of ovaries and breasts.
Food
Loss of appetite, though food has natural taste. Food has a sour taste. Hungry, but refuses food. Sudden disgust while eating. Aversion to sweet things, fruits especially plums. Desire for sweets. Worse after warm food. Better from cold diet. Weakness of digestion. Thirst during chill.
Head
Head sensitive to cold, disposed to catch cold when washing head. Brain feels loose, better cold air. Heavy pressure over eyes. Stitching pain when standing in sun. Pulsation in temples. Crawling over scalp, as from ants. Wens on scalp. Dry eruptions or moist crusts on the scalp. Tension as if skin were too tight. Hair falls out. Baldness at vertex. Premature baldness, even in very young men.
Heart
Arteriosclerosis. High blood pressure. Aneurysm. Cardiac symptoms after suppressed foot sweat or after masturbation. Heart feels bruised, sore. Palpitations and distress in region of heart. Palpitations when lying on left side, when thinking of it. Palpitation felt in head. Violent, long-lasting palpitations. Pulse full and hard. Pulse slow, small.
Kidneys
Burning in urethra on urinating. Every time patient urinates, his hemorrhoids come down. Urging to urinate, cannot retain the urine. Renewed straining after urination, with dribbling of urine. Frequent urination. Passes much urine at night. Urine is dark brown, scanty.
Limbs
Pain in axillary glands. Pain in deltoid on raising arms. Limbs feel numb. Numbness from knees to scrotum, better when sitting. Fingers numb. Pain in joints, burning pains in lower limbs. Trembling of feet and hands while writing. Cold, foul foot sweat. Pain in the knees while kneeling. Cold, clammy feet (Calc.). Fetid foot sweats. Toes and soles sore, soles painful when walking. Soles feel hot or bruised at night during sleep.
Lungs
Asthma of old people, worse wet, warm air. Chronic bronchitis. Oppressed breathing with anguish. Paralytic aphonia. Larynx feels as if smoke were inhaled. Lungs feel full of smoke. Paralysis of lungs in elderly people.
Male
Enlarged prostate gland. Flabby genitals. Genitals feel numb. Indurated testicles. Small retracted testicles. Impotency. Premature emissions. Diminished desire. Erections when riding. Erections only in morning before rising. Falling asleep during sex. Painful nodes in breast in old fat men. Moisture and soreness between scrotum and thighs. Sweats about scrotum.
Modalities
Better walking in open air. Better cold food. Better warm wraps, warm atmosphere. Better when alone, standing. Worse while thinking of symptoms. Worse company. Worse mental exertion, emotions. Worse raising arms. Worse sitting. Worse lying on painful side. Worse left side. Worse from cold air, cold damp. Worse cold exposure to feet and head. Worse washing. Worse odors. Worse warm food and after eating. Worse suppressed foot sweat. Headache is worse from heat of sun or being near a warm stove.
Mouth
Mouth feels numb. Sour, bitter taste. Whole mouth filled with vesicles, especially inside the cheek. Saliva runs out while asleep. Dribbling of saliva at dawn. Fetor oris, unnoticed by himself. Awakes with dry mouth. Sudden accumulation of water in mouth. Much tough mucus in mouth.
Nose
Dry, sneezing, worse blowing it. Coryza with swelling of upper lip and nose. Coryza worse mornings. Tip and edges of nose are painful. Sensation of smoke in nose. Discharge of thick, yellow mucus. Frequent nosebleeds. Nosebleeds before menses. Scabs around wings of nose. Smell sensitive.
Perspiration
Sweats on single parts, one hand, one foot. Sweats on one side of body, face. Fetid foot sweats. Stinking sweat of feet. Worse suppressed foot sweat. Debilitating at night.
Rectum
Burning in anus and rectum during stool. Crawling in rectum. Ascarides. Hemorrhoids protrude while urinating. Shooting pain in hemorrhoids. Constipation with hard, knotty stools. Diarrhea with lumbar ache. Diarrhea, with bloody mucus. Anus sore and moist. Oozing at anus. Anus as if excoriated.
Skin
Acne. Lipomas. Cysts. Whitlows. Intolerable itching and tingling over the whole body at night. Sensation like the pricks of burning needles, itching and crawling sensations. Burning sarcoma. Excoriation and oozing in several parts of the skin. Injuries in the skin heal with difficulty. Swelling and induration of the glands. Warts.
Sleep
Sleepy and can't sleep. Sleepiness in the daytime. Sleepiness and weariness on slightest exertion. Talking in sleep, awakens frequently, feels too hot. Twitching during sleep. Sleep agitated. Frequent waking and anxious dreams. Almost constant dreaming, causes anxiety at night.
Stomach
Sensitivity of stomach. Spasms of esophagus as soon as food enters esophagus, causes gagging and choking (Merc-c., Graph.). Pain and weight immediately after a meal with epigastric tenderness (Kali-c.). Pain while fasting and after eating. Sore spot in stomach. Weak digestion of old people with possible malignancy, better cold food. Dyspepsia of young masturbators or with seminal emissions. Long-lasting nausea. Morning sickness and vomiting. Vomiting fluid, water and chalk, followed by prostration. Water brash, hiccough and eructation, which relieves pressure as of a stone.
Teeth
Rapid decay of teeth. Gums bleed and retract. Gums hurt when touched. Toothache with swelling of gums. Toothache, worse before menses. Involuntary chattering of teeth. Fistula dentalis. Abscesses at roots.
Temperature
Strong disposition to chilliness. Chilliness relieved by external heat. Flushes of heat, more at night.
Throat
Submaxillary glands and tonsils swollen. Takes cold easily with stitches and smarting pain. Tonsils inflamed with swollen veins. Suppurating tonsils from every cold. Enlarged tonsils. Quinsy. Smarting pain when swallowing, worse empty swallowing. Feeling of a plug in pharynx. Tendency to tonsillitis. Can swallow liquids only. Sudden water brash. Sore throat with salivation. Throat troubles from overuse of voice. Stinging pain in tonsils, pharynx or larynx. Submaxillary gland swollen. Much burning in throat. Chronic torticollis.
Tongue
Tongue, weak, hard, cannot speak. Paralysis of tongue. Smarting, burning, in tip of tongue. Burning soreness or vesicles on tip or under the tongue. Tongue as if swollen, with dryness, early in the morning. Tip of tongue cracked and sore. As if blisters were on side of tongue.
Vertigo
Vertigo with confusion, in morning. Vertigo when standing in the sun, sharp pain extending through head. Vertigo of elderly people. Vertigo with nausea, worse stooping. Vertigo when lifting arms up.
Vision
Amblyopia. Gauze before eyes. Fiery sparks before eyes in dark. Sparks before eyes in dark. Diplopia. Weakness of sight caused by old age. Flying webs and black spots. Optical illusions, generally in bright colors. Sees everything as in a fog when closing eyes and pressing balls. Sees a cloud before left eye. Weak vision, worse during day, evening. Weak vision in candlelight.
Comments
A paralytic condition runs throughout the pathogenesis. There is paralysis of mind and body. Mistrust, lack of self-confidence, aversion to strangers. The child does not want to play.
Deficient memory. Children cannot remember and learn. Sensation as if the brain is loose.
Vertigo with nausea from stooping, or when lifting in old people. Pressure and sticking in the brain at vertex, on waking. Rough, dry, and herpetic eruptions on the face. Dark redness. Tension of the whole face as if egg white had dried on it, as if a cobweb (Bar-c.) over face, temples, and scalp. Painful swelling of parotid and of submaxillary glands. The sense of smell is very acute; may have an illusion of the smell of pine smoke. Nosebleed before menses.
The tongue is paralyzed. Salivation, saliva runs out during sleep.
The digestion is weak after eating. Pressing in the stomach, pain in hard, swollen abdomen. Stomach feels sore while eating. It feels as if the food had to force its way through some raw place.
The anus is sore and humid. Hemorrhoids protrude with urination as well as stool. Constipation with hard, knotty stools, hemorrhoids, burning, and soreness. The paralytic condition appears in the sexual organs. Soreness and moistening between scrotum and thighs. Impotence. Enlarged prostate.
Paralytic condition of the respiratory organs. Feeling in the larynx as if inspiring smoke or pitch. Hoarseness and loss of voice from cough. Mucus in larynx and trachea. Suffocating catarrh and paralysis of lungs in old people. Sensation as if lungs are full of smoke.
There is a spasmodic cough, like whooping cough, from roughness and tickling in the throat and the pit of stomach. Cough is worse evening until midnight. Worse after getting feet cold, exercise, lying on left side, cold air, thinking of it.
Palpitations with soreness of heart, worse lying on left side, worse thinking of it. Violent, long-lasting palpitation felt in head. Palpitations worsen on exertion. Slightest exertion makes him feel tired and sleepy. Aneurysm and atheroma.
Marked pulsation in the back. Stiffness and tension in small of back in the evening, especially while sitting, allowing one to neither rise nor bend backwards. Painfulness of arms and swelling of axillary glands. Cold feet. Fetid perspiration of feet. Corns with burning and stinging. Burning and drawing pains are frequent in lower limbs. Tearing in limbs with chilliness. Tension and shortening of muscles.
Intolerable irritation all over like prickings and tingling, waking him at night. Itching, sore, and humid skin. Warts. General soreness and sensitiveness. Small wounds ulcerate and get very sore. Offensive sweat of one side (mostly the left). Cold, clammy feet (Cale.). Chilliness predominates. Left side much affected. After eating, so weak, cannot raise his hands. Too weak to masticate.
Down's syndrome, delayed development. Slow learning, slow speech, slow walking and coordination, delayed dentition. Difficulty making connections between words and objects, communication problems. Weak long-term memory, forgetfulness, poor attention span. Simian fold, a straight line across the palms.
Retarded development of growth, or of a specific organ. Stimulates the growth hormone (Pituitin, 6x) if the child is still growing. Also for pituitary tumors. Growth could be stopped by trauma, vaccination, or shock. Delayed development of the genitalia, especially the ovaries and the testicles. Undescended testicles (Aur., Clem.).
Very shy, gentle, and docile. They have very poor self-confidence. Inability to make decisions. The Bar-c constitution has floppy hands and feet, and giggling, spacey eyes. Simple-mindedness. Symptoms of autism. Dreamy. Never leave childish state. Dependent.
Dumbfounded look on their face, clumsy, dull. Can have night terrors (Cale.).
Post-apoplectic in the elderly, when they revert to a childhood-like state. They become very shy and sensitive and can't make decisions. Also from epilepsy or head injury. Elderly have poor memory and indecision, some of the symptoms of Alzheimer's. Premature senility. Can have high blood pressure, swollen glands. Hormonal problems which age them quickly. Both the elderly and children need a specific routine, structure, to be happy.
Children can have recurring tonsillitis (Bar-m.). Tendencies to colds, with swollen glands. A lot of adenoid problems. Can have skin problems. Chilly. Can get emaciation easily, especially after infections. Lymphatic problems with a history of glandular problems. They have an enlarged abdomen (Sil., Cale., Sanic.). Offensive foot sweats (Sil., Nit-ac., Graph., Cale.).
Clarke cured an advanced case of thoracic aneurysm with the 3x. A case has been recorded in which Bar-c. removed from an old man a pain that came suddenly in the hollow of the knee and ran down the back of the leg like a thin stream of hot fluid or molten metal running down under the skin.
