Herbal

Azadirachta indica is a large tree. The leaves, bark, wood, roots, fruits, and every part of this tree are intensely bitter. The vast range of its action is chiefly due to azasenne, margocine, and catechin, the three active principles found in this tree.

This is an Indian remedy from very ancient times. The bark, known as Margosa bark, is the best-known medicinal portion. The tincture for the provings was made from the bark by Dr. P. C. Majumdar of Calcutta, India.

Majumdar contributed a synopsis of Aza. According to Ayurveda, the different parts of this tree possess different medicinal properties. Sanskrit authors agree that Azadirachta indica bark, though very disagreeable in taste, is generally used with success.

The Neem tree is used for the treatment of bacterial, viral, and fungal infections and for the treatment and prevention of malaria. Its action on fevers is well-known in India; the native physicians use Neem as the principal substance in their febrifuge medicines. It is especially useful in cases previously maltreated with quinine.

Comments

In the provings, a constant symptom was a severe headache, deep in, worse by motion. Also a slight cough with easy expectoration of phlegm. Tends to do better in chronic cases of tuberculosis, as compared to acute cases.

There are leading indications for it when present in combination with other disorders. An inter-current course of Bacillinum will often make a wonderful change in patients who have a personal or family history of chest disorders. Bacillinum is an acute miasm remedy for Phosphorus and Calcarea constitutions in particular.

Grimmer used it for cases stemming from a tubercular inheritance with extreme soreness of affected parts, patients of rheumatic tendencies with syphilitic taints in the bloodstream, general muscular soreness.

Dr. Young recorded the cure of several cases of cretinism. A case of insanity with pityriasis yielded rapidly to the remedy. Pityriasis has been cured by it when all attempts to kill the body lice by chemicals were useless. Clarke has found an eczematous condition of the margins of the eyelids a strong indication for it.

Bacillinum is made from tuberculosis bacilli, and Tuberculinum is from bovine tuberculosis. Tuberculinum is a deeper and more chronic remedy. Bacillinum tends to be more for acutes, but there's a lot of overlap. If a Bacillinum case keeps relapsing, follow with Tuberculinum. Miasmatic remedy, history of tuberculosis in family.

Good for children or adults with a tendency to get colds and sore throats frequently, particularly if they react well to acute remedies, but keep coming back. For children who get a cold at every change in the weather. Often swollen glands in the throat. Weight on the chest (Phos.). Mucus in the lungs, bronchitis. Good for the elderly with a tendency to colds and bronchitis. Lingering colds. The majority of the symptoms are gone, but a lingering cough or sore throat. Nondescript coughs.

Ringworm (Sep., Thuj., Tell.), and the tendency to ringworm. Diarrhea, especially with a cold, sore throat (Ars.).

Relations

  • Compare: (1) Phos., Dros., Mercury. Its effects seem to be identical to that of Koch's Tuberculinum. Both are useful in the tubercular diathesis before tuberculosis has developed. In the early stages of tubercular disease of glands, joints, skin, and bones. (2) Psor. (3) Bae-I. (4) Ant-t., Joel, Lach., Ars-i., Myosotis. Complementary: Kali-c., Calc-p., Lach., goes with this remedy very well. Follows well: Levico, 5-10 drops, follows as an intercurrent where much debility is present (Burnett).
