Homeopathic
Sol of the Alchemists. This use of gold as an anti-venereal and anti-scrofulous remedy is very ancient, but has been forgotten until rediscovered by homeopathy.
Gold profoundly affects the entire organism, exercising a solvent action on the tissues, producing ulcerations and the disappearances of new growths. It is one of the best antidotes to mercurial overdosing and especially in cases of syphilis, scrofula, and bone decay. Produces rushes of blood and hemorrhages. "Worse from sunset to sunrise."
Ulcers which attack the bones. Warts, scrofulous, syphilitic, mercurial. Exostosis, decay, nightly bone pains, especially cranial, nasal, and palatine. Glands swollen in scrofulous subjects. Palpitations and congestions. Frequently indicated in secondary syphilis and for the effects of mercury.
Ascites often in conjunction with heart disorders. Ozaena. Sexual hypersensitivity. Arteriosclerosis. High blood pressure. Nightly paroxysms of pain behind sternum. Sclerosis of liver, arterial system, brain.
Shelton has recorded effects on girls working with gold leaf, including the occurrence of a "thick leucorrheal discharge, not offensive, white or yellowish, occasionally profuse, invariably worse by walking."
Mind
Mental states of great depression. No remedy produces more acute mental depression than Aurum met. There is a condition of melancholy, hopelessness, and profound depression. Acute depression. Future looks dark. Hopelessness with heart disease. Want of self-confidence and thinks others have none, which makes her unhappy.
Complaints after grief, fright, anger, disappointed love, contradiction, reserved displeasure. Ailments from unusual responsibilities. Duty-bound. Workaholic, industrious, always busy and working, never finished. Grief and depression. Financial loss. Hopelessness. Aggravation from strong emotions. Forsaken feeling. Sadness when alone. Homesickness.
Despondent and great desire to commit suicide. Profound despondency, with increased blood pressure. Loss of love of life. Disgust of life and thoughts of suicide. Despair from pain, wants to jump out of window. Talks of committing suicide. Every opportunity is sought for self-destruction. Tendency to suicide and longing for death.
Mental derangements. Weak memory. Melancholy, imagines he is unfit for this world, never can succeed. She does everything wrong. Thinks had neglected something, her friends, her duty. Back
Stinging pains in small of back. As if lower spine bulged backwards. Lumbar muscles painfully stiff, thigh cannot be raised. Swollen cervical glands like knotted cord. Tension in neck as if muscles too short, even at rest, worse stooping. Pains, drawing and acute, in the back and sometimes so violent as to prevent any motion of the limbs.
Bones
Destruction of bones like secondary syphilis. Pain in bones of head, lumps under scalp, exostosis with nightly pain in bones. Decay of nasal, palatine, and mastoid bones. Soreness of affected bones, better in open air, worse at night. Temporal arteries throb visibly.
Causations
Ill effects of grief, fright, anger, disappointed love, contradiction, reserved displeasure. Prolonged anxiety, unusual responsibility. Loss of property.
Chest
Aching in left side of the chest. Crushing weight under sternum, worse ascending. Stitches in the sternum. Constrictive oppression of the chest. Pain, as if there were a plug placed under the ribs. Much congestion in the chest. Oppression of chest with face ache. Inflammatory swelling of axillary glands.
Constitutions
Suited to sanguine people with black hair and dark eyes, olive-brown complexion. Syphilitic and mercurial patients. When syphilis is implanted on the scrofulous constitution.
It is adapted to nervous, hysterical women, girls at puberty. Also light-haired scrofulous persons. Pining boys and old age. Old people with heart disease. Persons who are low-spirited, lifeless, weak memory, yet sensitive to pain, which drives them to despair.
Cough
Cough from want of breath at night. Cough with tough yellow sputum on awaking in the morning. Dry, nervous spasmodic cough, peculiar to women from sunset to sunrise. Cough from want of breath, at night.
Ears
Congestion to ears. Burning, prickling, itching. Decay of the mastoid process. Obstinate fetid otorrhea after scarlatina. Flow of fetid pus from the ears. External meatus bathed in pus. Labyrinthine disease due to syphilis. Meniere's disease. Nerve deafness with embarrassed speech. Oversensitive to noise, but better music. Hardness of hearing with embarrassed speech. Humming, buzzing, and rushing in the ears. Roaring in the ears.
Eyes
Orbits feel sore. Feels tense. Violent pains in bones around eye (Asaf.). Intestinal keratitis. Vascular cornea. Pains from without inward. Sticking pains inward.

Face
Anxious expression. Inflammation of the bones of the face. Congested, bluish-red. Face puffed, and shining as if from sweat. Tearing in zygoma. Mastoid and other facial bones inflamed. Red eruption, which peels off, on the forehead and on the nose. Painful swelling of the submaxillary glands. Parotids swollen, painful to touch. Swelling of the cheeks.
Female
Amenorrhea with great sadness. Delayed menarche. Menses too late and scanty or absent. Before menses, swelling of axillary glands. Uterine troubles worse reaching high with arms. Head

Heart
Angina pectoris. Oppression at the heart. High blood pressure. Carotids and lesions of arteriosclerosis. Heart feels loose on walking. Palpitations compel him to stop. Violent palpitation, at puberty. Sensation as if heart stopped beating for two or three seconds, immediately followed by tumultuous rebound with sinking at the epigastrium. Palpitations with rush of blood to chest. Heart bruised, sore, worse suppressed foot sweat. Aortic disease. Fatty degeneration of heart. Hypertrophy. Endocarditis. Carotids and temporal arteries throb visibly. Pulse rapid, feeble, irregular. Pulse small but accelerated.
Kidneys
Nephritis with cardiac and hepatic diseases. Painful retention of urine with urgent inclination to urinate. Pressure on the bladder. Constant urging. Urine turbid, like buttermilk. Urine scanty, greenish-brown. Urine with thick mucus-like sediment. Frequent emission of watery urine. Hematuria. Urine increased, pale.
Limbs
Holds the left arm during attack of palpitations. Nightly leg pains. All the blood seems to rush from head to lower limbs. Dropsy of lower limbs. Orgasm, as if blood were boiling in all veins. Paralytic, tearing pains in joints. Knees weak. Pains in both the knees as if tightly bandaged. Paralytic feeling in legs. Nails turn blue. Trembling feet. Hot bruised soles, at night. Liver
Liver region hot and painful. Hepatitis. Liver with heart symptoms. Jaundice of pregnancy.
Lungs
Asthma, from congestion to chest. Cardiac asthma with weak pulse, mental depression, and great debility. Asthma worse in open air. Suffocative attacks, with spasmodic constriction of chest. Dyspnea worse laughing, at night. Always takes a deep breath and cannot get enough air. Frequent deep breathing, stitches in sternum. Male

Mouth

Nose

Perspiration

Temperature
Painfully sensitive to cold. Shivering in bed. Febrile chills over the whole body while in bed in the evening. Coldness of the entire body, with bluish color of the nails. Nauseous taste, with inclination to vomit. Heat of the face, with cold in the hands and feet.
Throat
Voice nasal. Stitches when swallowing. Pain in glands. Decay of the palate. Drinks come through the nose. Stinging in throat when swallowing. Tonsils swollen and ulcerated. Red and swollen tonsils.
Tongue
Aphthae on tongue. Tongue swollen, with scirrhus-like hardness. Flabby and dry. Tongue leathery, hard. Tongue dry and coated. Tongue coated at back. Ulcers on tongue. Wans on tongue.
Vertigo
Stupefaction during vertigo. Vertigo when stooping. Vertigo as if turning in a circle, better on rising. Vertigo as if drunk when walking in open air, feels as if he would fall to the left, must lie down.
Vision
Double vision. Hemiopia, upper half of objects invisible. Hemiopia from straining eyes. Yellow crescent bodies floating obliquely upward. Sees fiery objects. Sees fog or mole before eyes. Everything looks blue. Black spots, names, sparks before the eyes. Irregular pupils. Optical illusions in bright colors.
Comments
Boring pains and burning stitches predominate. The head is giddy, full, hot. Rush of blood to the head. Vertigo as if turning in a circle when stooping, goes away on rising. As if drunk when walking in the open air. Sensation as if a current of air were rushing through the head if not kept warm. Bones of skull painful, especially lying down.
Vertical half-sight. Fiery sparks. Decay of mastoid process of bones of nose. Ozaena. In the abdominal region, there is swelling of liver, jaundice (Mere.). Hernia inguinal or umbilical and in children. Onanism.
The sexual organs are markedly affected. Induration of testes. Undeveloped testicles in puny boys. Swelling or neuralgia of testicle. Uterus prolapsed and indurated, the weight of it causes prolapses. The chloride of gold and sodium acts more powerfully in these conditions.
Suffocative attacks with oppression of chest. Anxious palpitations from congestion to the chest. Palpitation with anguish and tremulous fearfulness. Pain in heart region extending down left arm to fingers. Boring pains in bones, worse at night.
Hysterical spasms with laughing and crying alternately. Hyper-sensitive to all pains. Great ebullitions with congestion to the head and chest and palpitation of the heart.
Frightful dreams, sobs aloud when asleep. Chilliness predominates, shivering in open air. Coldness of hands and feet, sometimes lasting all night. Heat, only in the face.
Perspiration in the morning hours, mostly on and around the genitals. Paralytic drawing in the limbs in the morning when awaking and on getting cold.
Severe heart disease, arteriosclerosis, cerebral arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, with depression. Sensation of the heart not beating or getting heart pains or that it is beating too fast. Fear of heart disease.
Also for arthritis or for the ill effects of gold shots. Tennis elbow. Sinus infections, breaking down in nasal septum. Late stage syphilis. Chronic, severe, unrelenting insomnia that no medication can help. Hair falls out.
Suicidal depression or severe depression with no hope of recovery. Giving Aurum is giving a ray of hope back, that the actual remedy is like potentized light, because in their life there's no light or hope.
May have history of attempted suicide from financial loss, from the loss of money and property, loss of love. Manic depression. Suicidal tendencies from pain. Kent describes losing the will to live as the deepest illness one can have.
Religious mania with deep guilt (Nat-m.). Depression after death of a loved one. Over-investment, possessiveness followed by loss. Over-responsible, strong sense of duty and loyalty.
Keynote insomnia drives a person crazy, particularly in the elderly. Geriatric remedy for people who feel they've lost their purpose or value in life, but act stoic. "Hippocratic countenance," as if their face was chiseled out of stone. Flat tone to voice, can have lack of emotion but with a happy façade.
Pathologically independent and can have difficulty expressing themselves. Resigned to depression. Introverted. Kent gave the etiologies as prolonged anxiety, grief, and unusual responsibilities that were heaped on someone and they failed. Financial loss, abuse of mercury as a medicine, or a history of suppressed syphilis.
Craves sunshine, finds dull, cloudy days unbearable. Depressed, dejected, tired of life, discontented.
Depression worse at night. Deep self-condemnation, guilt complex, easily frightened, feels worthless. Restless, hurried, fidgety. Quarrelsome, may have wild outbursts of rage followed by remorse, worse contradiction. Sensitive to pain and cold. Chilly, likes to be wrapped up but may still like fresh air.
Worse from sunset to sunrise. May have a history of syphilis, especially if there is bone pain. Worse grief or emotional stress.
