Homeopathic

Ars-h. was used by Drysdale as a substitute for Arsenic in the collapse stage of cholera. The symptoms set in suddenly but developed slowly. In poisoning cases, death often took place in the second week and one person, who recovered, suffered seven weeks.

Though like Ars. in general symptoms, the gas has symptoms of its own. The general action is the same, but more accentuated. A striking case of sudden suppression of menses was cured with Ars-h. after failure of Ars.

Anemia. Anxiety, despair. Hematuria with general blood disorganization. Hemorrhages from mucus membranes. Urine suppressed, followed by vomiting. The prepuce and glans of penis are covered with pustules and round superficial ulcers.

Collapse. Coldness, prostration. Sudden weakness and nausea. Skin becomes dark brown.

MIND

Mental activity much impaired. Indifference on hearing most important news. Discouraged. Impeded in talking, answers very slowly. Answers abruptly, shortly. Changeable. Starting during sleep. Thinking of water irritates, as if he would have to vomit, nauseates him.

Anxiety, restlessness with great prostration of strength. Anxious feeling before chill. Full of care and fear about complaints when getting awake at night. Fear of death when alone. Excitable, wants to talk constantly. Impatience. Loud complaining about unbearable pains in spine.

Abdomen

Distension of abdomen during chill. Gurgling noise, incarcerated flatus. Sensation as from a stone lying in abdomen. Glowing heat in abdomen with cold limbs. Violent cutting pain in region of navel, paroxysmal. Colic with vomiting, before midnight. Burning pain through whole alimentary canal. Softening of spleen. Pain in loins during vomiting.

Back

Sensation as if something were sticking below right scapula. Glow in back after chilliness. Backache causing loud lamentations. Tearing pain in neck during chill. Pressure between shoulders. Crawling over shoulders and back. Shuddering over single parts of back. Violent pain in lumbar region. Violent pain in sacrum. Stiffness of neck and between scapulae.

Chest

Constriction of chest during chill. As if whole thorax were laced tightly, with rapid breathing. Sore, raw, over whole chest. Crawling, as if warm drops running over chest. Glowing sensation in chest after chilly feeling. Pain in middle of sternum, worse walking about. Pressure over whole chest with great anxiety.

Eyes

Eyes sunken, broad, blue circles around. Eyes lustreless. Conjunctiva reddened during chill. Heaviness of lids, have to be lifted up with fingers. Blue light before right eye when falling asleep. Dim vision.

Face

Expression of extreme anxiety. Painfully distorted features. Face looks old and bears an expression of pain. Face copper-colored, or dark red. Chilly feeling in face, followed by a glow. Yellowish face at beginning of chill. Pain in maxillary joints when first opening mouth. Heat in face. Face edematous, worse evening. Face greatly changed. Very painful twitching. Lips colorless. Upper lip sore with chill.

Food

Less appetite, cats without relish. Loss of appetite. Violent thirst and a dry tongue. Much thirst. Sensitive to tobacco. Sweet things taste too sweet.

Head

Head dull and benumbed. Pressure in forehead. Heaviness. Pressing, stupefying sensation at night. Headache above forehead. Pressure in right frontal sinus. Pressure above eyebrows with numbness. Violent pressive frontal headache, worse at night. Head worse warmth. Pain in upper and back part of head when coughing. Pain in forehead during chill.

Heart

Knocking, thumping in heart, deep in chest. Pulse frequent. Pulse quite imperceptible. Pulse intermits when waking at night with anxiety and thoughts of death.

Kidneys

Heat and burning over kidney region. Unpleasant sensation of pressure in region of kidneys. Urging to urinate. Urine dark red and a thick clot of pure blood is formed. Pressure in kidneys with desire to urinate. Large quantities of pale urine. Scanty, foaming urine in morning. Inky urine. Urine very dark, orange-colored.

Limbs

Coldness of limbs.

Liver

Liver painful to pressure.

Lungs

Frequent, with pain in perineum. Talking worse. Coming from front upper part of chest. Coughing causes sweating.

Male

Sensation of numbness. Unbearable pain in both groins. Pain in symphysis pubis, sensitive to touch. Pain in left side of penis. Sexual irritation on glans penis. Whole foreskin and glans covered with little blisters containing pus. Small round flat ulcers.

Modalities

Worse dampness. Worse before thunderstorm. Worse from motion.

Mouth

Mouth hot and dry. Little thirst. Bitter taste, with great prostration. Contracting. Sensation of numbness, like a cold feeling. Increased salivation. Ammoniacal odour of breath.

Nose

Unpleasant crawling in nose causes sneezing. Nose as if deadened. Nose feels as if dried up. Violent sneezing. Nose cold, must be wrapped up in warm cloths. Tickling up in nose, causes sneezing. Bloody mucus from nose. Nose and lips somewhat excoriated.

Perspiration

Sweats in large drops on face and whole head. General, warm sweat, after midnight. Attacks of night sweat. Sweats on falling asleep.

Rectum

Urging as to diarrhea. Copious passage of wind and looseness. Frequent bilious stools. Constipation with feeling of heaviness and stiffness, like a weight. Stool with vertigo, weakness and crawling. Weak sensation, if relaxed. Sensation as if diarrhea would fall out, evening. Thumping, knocking in region of perineum, near anus. Tearing pain in perineum. Tearing pain upward in anterior wall of rectum.

Skin

Dark brown skin all over.

Sleep

Can't get to sleep for a long while, feels as if he had to move about. Total sleeplessness. So drowsy that he can hardly open his eyes. Sopor between attacks of vomiting. Moaning in sleep. Sleep interrupted by headache. Sleep interrupted by slightest noise. Sleep disturbed by wind colic towards morning. Frequent starting while falling asleep. Very pleasant, poetical dreams. Dreams he was praying. Dreams of people going and arriving.

Stomach

Irritability of stomach. Burning pain. Weary feeling in stomach with pressure in temples. Belching with taste of food eaten. Spasmodic emetations of tasteless gas. Violent cutting pain in stomach. Pressure in epigastric region during chill. Pressure of hand causes dull pain in pit. Hiccough following emetations. Tormenting hiccough. Incessant retching and vomiting.

Ars

i. is very effective.

Acrid coryza, influenza, hay fever. There is marked burning in the eyes, nasal passages, mouth and pharynx. Thin, acrid, watery discharges from anterior and posterior nares. Watery discharge drops from tip of the nose. Aphonia. Slight hacking cough, dry stopped nostrils.

Has been used in cancerous affections and in all stages of syphilis. Cancer of breast after ulceration has set in. Epithelioma and Jung cancers based on tubercular disease. Epithelioma of the lip. Axillary tumors. Great emaciation.

Weakness and debility. Heart weakened by chronic lung disorders. Arteriosclerosis. Fatty degeneration of the heart. Myocarditis. Myocardial degeneration. Senile heart. Chronic aortitis. Feeble irregular pulse.

Disorders of the blood and glands are pronounced. Pernicious anemia. In amenorrhea with anemic palpitations and dyspnea. In chronic pneumonia, when abscess is about to form. Pneumonia following influenza. Chronic pneumonia with abscess in lung.

MIND

Excitable. Hurried. Impatience. Anxiety about health. Restlessness at night, driving out of bed. Hyperactive children. Oversensitive to noise. Oversensitive to sensual impressions. Averse to being spoken to. Unable to study. Study causes headache. Worse from mental exertion. Sudden impulse to kill.

Abdomen

Abdomen hard and distended with flatus, which is constantly discharged. Large quantities of flatus. Bellyache, better after stools. Chronic splenic enlargement. Enlarged mesenteric glands. Painful swelling in right groin extending leg. Severe cutting pain in abdomen.

Back

Burning heat in lumbar region, as if clothes were on fire. Soreness of back and neck.

Breasts

Lump in breasts, worse touch. Cancer of breast after ulceration has set in. Nipple retracted. Emaciation of breasts.

Chest

Burning heat in chest. Axillary tumors.

Constitutions

Suited to those with a tendency to allergies, hay fever and asthma. Tubercular constitutions.

Cough

Hacking cough with dry and stopped up nostrils. Cough dry with little difficult expectoration. Frequent, short, suppressed cough. Frequent cough, worse exertion and at night. Cough often loose, with muco-purulent expectoration.

Ears

Otitis media with fetid, corrosive discharge. Hypertrophy of eustachian tube, deafness from. Sharp pain in ears and forehead when riding in a sharp cold wind. Thickening of tympanum, after scarlet fever.

Eyes

Scrofulous ophthalmia. Burning, acrid coryza. Eyeballs feel heavy. Smarting about eyes. Weakness of eyes, with burning pain. Secretion of meibomian glands.

Face

Sallow complexion. Pinched cadaverous face. Purple, livid hue of skin. Aching in malar bones. Cancer of lips.

Female

Foul, bloody, yellow irritating leucorrhea with swelling of labia.

Food

Intense thirst with desire for cold water which is ejected at once.

Head

Study, mental exertion causes headache. Dull heavy headache, across forehead or occiput. Unpleasant feeling in head, like a bad cold. Stunning pain above eyes and root of nose. Severe pain in forehead. Hyperemia of brain, with cold feeling in scalp. Head covered with an inflammatory scaly eruption.

Heart

Weak heart. Arteriosclerosis. Myocardial degeneration. Senile heart. Fatty degeneration of heart. Chronic aortitis. Pulse rapid, irritable. Pulse rapid, feeble, weak, irregular. Oppression in warm room, with anxiety in region of heart.

Limbs

Cold limbs. Heaviness of limbs with weariness. Pain in humerus, worse from writing. Clothes feel cold better walking. Tired, weary feeling in calves of both legs while kneeling.

Lungs

Asthma. General wheezing on first lying down. Breathing too rapid, even when at rest, increasing in rapidity on exertion, soon becoming an audible wheezing. Chronic bronchitis. Catarrhal pneumonia with muco-purulent expectoration, dyspnea, night sweats. Pneumonia that fails to clear up.

Lungs

Broncho-pneumonia after influenza. Rales and crepitation. Pleuritis. Short of breath, air hunger. Feeble respiration. Expectoration, yellow-green, foul. Muco-purulent and occasionally stringy mucus. Pulmonary tuberculosis. Tubercular pleurisy.

Modalities

Better from open air. Better after eating. Worse from dry, cold weather. Worse windy, foggy weather. Worse any exertion. Worse in rooms. Worse apples. Worse tobacco smoke. Worse when hungry. Worse lying on the painful side. Worse warm south winds.

Mouth

Breath fetid.

Nose

Hay fever. Swollen nose. Burning, acrid coryza. Coryza with dyspnea. Thin, watery, excoriating discharge from anterior and posterior sinuses. Drips water, which is hot, green, acrid, reddens upper lip. Irritation and tingling of nose constant desire to sneeze (Pollanin.). Aggravation by sneezing. Frequent sneezing, but unsatisfactory. Chronic nasal catarrh, profuse thick yellow discharge. Nasal membrane sore and excoriated. Nasal ulcers. Post-nasal catarrh. Colds with hunger. Violent, acute influenza.

Perspiration

Debilitating night sweats. Drenching night sweats with weakness.

Rectum

Continual aching in anus with seeming inability to keep sphincter closed. Diarrhea and dysentery, stools scalding, white. Urging in morning after moving about. Diarrhea not at night. Almost constant copious watery diarrhea.

Sensations

Sensations of heaviness occur in many parts.

Skin

Dry, scaly, itching. Psoriasis. Marked exfoliation of skin in large scales, leaving a raw exuding surface beneath. Enlarged scrofulous glands. Eczema of the beard, watery, oozing, itching, worse washing. Ichthyosis. Acne is hard, indurated base with pustule at apex. Venereal bubo. Eczema of beard worse washing.

Sleep

Restless sleep. Constant yawning. Sleeplessness from headache.

Stomach

Pain and heartburn. Intense thirst, water is immediately ejected. Pain in stomach, afternoons, with rising of flatus and a greasy fluid. Pain in stomach worse rising after sitting. Pain in epigastrium. Vomiting an hour after food. Distressing nausea and vomiting.

Temperature

Chilly, cannot endure cold. Influenza. Recurrent fever and sweats. Emaciation.

Throat

Hoarseness. Aphonia. Raw burning pains. Burning in pharynx. Thick membrane from fauces to lips. Chronic follicular pharyngitis. Goiter. Diphtheria. Tonsils swollen. Enlargement and inflammation of tonsils and posterior part of uvula during coryza.

Tongue

Tongue slightly furred.

Vertigo

Vertigo with tremulous feeling, especially in the elderly.

Comments

This is a synthetic remedy, its iodine element makes the person hot and adds an affinity for the glands, so it's a warm-blooded glandular remedy. Good for fever with swollen glands. Acute sore throat with burning and swollen glands, worse heal.

In chronic, watery diarrhea in tubercular subjects in cases of emaciation with good appetite. This remedy can be continued for some time. Clinically, it has been found advisable in tuberculosis to begin with about the 4x and gradually go lower to the 2x trituration, 3 times a day.

Also for hay fever and allergies, usually will look like an infection with swollen glands and fever, not an allergy. Psoriasis (Kali-ar). Affinity for the thyroid, hypothyroid conditions. Good for AIDS patients with emaciation, fever, swollen glands.

Eczema of the beard, psoriasis, diarrhea of phthisis. Emaciation with good appetite. Always chilly, feeble respiration. Chronic splenic enlargement after intermittents or quinine.

Relations

Antidote: Ars., Bry. relieved pain and heartburn. Compare: (1) All-c., Ars., Sang., Tub., Kali-br. Ant-i. (2) In hay fever. Aralia, Naphthalin., Rosa, Sang-n. (3) Bae. in acrid discharges, Nit-ac., Ail., Arum-t., Ars., Ars-m. and Ars. salts. (4) Useful after Sulph.

In tuberculosis pulmonalis and after Conium is sensitive lump in breast. Complementary: Kali-i. Phos.
