Rohitaka has been named by Ayurvedic physicians as Plihaghati meaning thereby that it does away with all splenic disorders.
The Ayurvedic physicians have found it to be alternative. astringent and tonic. They prize it as an excellent remedy in the enlargement of liver and spleen, in corpulence and enlarged glands and also in general debility. They have also recommended it in gonorrhea.
Chakradatta, Charaka and other ayurvedic authorities have recommended it in the splenic affections, mucus gonorrhea. and leucorrhea. they have also found it efficacious in hepatic affections and derangements as well. They have recommended it for jaundice, dropsical swellings. chronic fevers and some other diseases.
HOMEOPATHIC - Dr. Pramada Prasanna Biswas of Padna, Bengal. personally, proved this drug. The following symptoms set in while it was proved:
MIND - Easily angered. Mistakes in spelling take place. Memory become dull and disordered. Cannot fix mind on any subject or matter.
Abdomen - Heat is felt in the lower abdomen. Pains are felt in the right and left hypochondrium. Enlargement of both liver and spleen and burning sensation is felt here.
Eyes - Eyes. burn.
Face - Face, eyes, bum. Flushes of heat come out of the face.
Head - Heat in the head, especially on the vertex. Giddiness of head. Feeling of warmth or heat in the head, especially on the frontal region. Sensation of pain in the temples associated with heat which is relieved by cold breeze or cold ap-plication. Burning sensation is felt in the eyes and face.
Limbs - Hands and feet bum. Burning sensation is felt there. The patient feels great relief if body coverings are thrown off.
Modalities - Open air, cold breeze or cold application generally mitigates or relieves all pains, specially burning of the body.
Mouth - Heat comes out of the mouth. Insipid taste in the mouth. In the morning taste becomes bad and bitter.
Stomach - Burning sensation is felt in the stomach with urging for vomiting. Sensadon of heat is felt in the stomach and spasmodic colic due to indigestion ensues. Nausea and vomiting. Also, an attempt at vomiting. Water comes out of the mouth.
Temperature - There is feverishness with headache with frontal pains. During fever aching pains are felt. Body becomes hot. Face, eyes hands and feet bum.
COMMENTS - It is alternative, astringent, and tonic, given in enlarged gland, as liver and spleen, in corpulence and in general debility. (R. N. Khory, Materia Medica of India. vol. II, p. 118)
N. Chopra in his Indigenous Drugs of India, p. 46I, says: "It is an aperient used in enlarged glands, liver and spleen diseases and corpulence."
It is a splendid remedy in all disorders of the spleen. either enlarged or painful.
It is also an excellent medicine in all hepatic derangement.
In chronic slow matinal fevers associated with the enlargement of the spleen and liver its action is supreme. It is particularly useful for patients with bilious temperament
Fever with headache and burning temperature. Fever with headache and burning sensation of eyes, face, hands and feet, they desire to have cold breeze or cold application which ameliorates all burning sensations experienced by them.
There is constipation which is a characteristic symptom of the drug. There is no desire for food. Taste of the mouth is insipid or bitter. The patient feels lightness while getting out of the bed in the morning.
