HOMEOPATIlflC- Alumina causes dryness of skin and mucus membranes. eyes. throat, rectum etc. Irritability and relaxation. It affects the cerebro-spinal axis causing disturbances in coordination and tendency to paretic muscular states.
Alumina paralyzes the bowels in the same way as lead poisoning to which it is an antidote. Constipation with dry stool. Obstinate constipation. Lack of urge. Must strain in order to pass a stool. Small and soft stools are passed with great difficulty. Straining to pass even a soft stool, can only evacuate bowels when standing. Strains as if abdomen and rectum were paralyzed. Painful evacuations with spasms of the colon. Must strain at stool in order to urinate. Urine is slow in passing.
Painter's colic. Pregnant women and children with constipation. Constipation from artificial baby foods. Elderly people with constipation, lack of vital heat or prematurely old with debility. Sluggish functions, heaviness, numbness and staggering. Functions become sluggish, actions are delayed, sensory impressions reach the consciousness slowly.
Alumina produces irritation of mucus membranes with dryness or extreme secretion and paralysis of involuntary muscles, like its relative Alumen. It affects the rectum, the nervous and muscular systems generally.
Degeneration of spinal cord. Para esthesia. Paralysis of the internal rectus muscle of the eye, causing squint. Also, ptosis. Drawing, pains appear in the limbs, a sensation of constriction in several organs. Locomotor ataxia. Boenninghausen cured a case of ataxia with Alum.
Craves dry rice and dry food. Worse from starch, especially potatoes, salt, wine, vinegar, and spirits. Patient is thin, inactive, wants to lie down, but it increases the fatigue. Exhaustion after talking, after menses. Dis-position to colds in the head and belching in spare, dry. thin subjects. Tendency to induration. Vertigo on closing eyes.
MIND - Senility and dementia. Absent-minded. Memory weak or loss. Forgets things, loses their way. Alzheimer's disease. The consciousness of reality and judgment is disturbed. Timid. Makes mistakes in speaking and writing. Inability to think coherently. Slowness in answering questions and vague replies. Cloudiness and drunken feeling alternating with pain in kidneys.
Alternating moods. Always groaning, moaning, worrying, fretting. Sneers at everything. Contrary. Grumbles. Obstinate. Peevish. Hasty, hurried. A feeling of hurry follows, things do not move fast enough. Hasty, but slow of execution, hence makes mistakes in speaking and writing. Contemptuous laughing. Laughs and talks between paroxysms of spasms.
Depressive mental states. Low-spirited. Everything is viewed in sad light. In effects of disappointments. Ailments from anger. Sad, apprehensive, wants to get away. Mental symptoms mostly come on in the morning on waking. Depressed on awakening. Involuntary weeping.
Great stupor with fear of falling forward. Fears loss of reason (Med., Cale.). Anxiety of conscience, as if guilty of a crime. Impulses. Fears his own impulses. Desire to kill at the sight of a knife or a gun. Suicidal tendency or impulses when seeing a knife or blood.
Confusion as to personal identity. When he sees or states something, he has the feeling, as through another person had said or seen it. or as though he was placed in another person and could see only them. Things seem unreal. Time passes slowly. Illusions of being larger, numb, smooth, heavy. Sensation as if he would fall forwards, which he greatly fears.
Abdomen - Abdomen as if hanging down heavily. when walking, worse afternoon. Left-sided abdominal complaints. Colic whenever the body is exposed to a chill. Cutting pain better warmth. Lead colic. Colic in morning. Painter's colic (Plb.). Protrusion and incarceration of inguinal hernia. Pressing in both groins toward sexual organs. Sticking pain from below upward. Sharp pains in region of inguinal ring. Shooting pain in region of spleen. Big-bellied children. Flatulence. Reaching too high strains abdominal muscles.
Back - Backache as if bruised. Pain along spinal cord with paralytic weakness. Gnawing pain. Sensation as if hot irons were thrust through lower spine. Violent sharp pain in middle of back. Back feels bandaged by a cord.
Back - Shooting in right side of neck. Throbbing in lumbar region during stool. Sudden sharp pain, like a stab in lower part of back, with feeling as if she could not straighten spine. Swelling of glands of left side of neck. Itching in nape and of throat. Cervical muscles drew head back during sleep.
Breasts - Nipples itch, bum, look irritated and inflamed during pregnancy.
Causations - Anger. disappointments. Bodily exertion, lifting.
Chest - Congestion of blood to chest and head, with redness of face. Chest feels constricted, worse sitting bettor stooping. Violent oppressive pain, worse at night. Chilliness in chest. Soreness of chest on talking, on lifting. Chest as if too large.
Constitutions - Psoric persons. Infants, constipation, especially when artificial food is used. Big-bellied children. Suited to persons of sedentary habits who suffer from chronic ailments to constitutions with diminished animal heat. Spare habit, dry, thin subjects. Elderly people, hypochondriacal or suffering from chronic diseases, especially catarrhs. Puberty, chlorosis with longing for indigestible substances. Elderly people with lack of vital heat or premature old age with debility.
Coughs - Coughs soon after waking i11 morning. Coughs on talking or singing, in morning. Constant, dry, hawking cough, interrupts breathing. Cough on talking or singing. Morning cough. Coughs with sneezing. Coughs from elongated uvula. Dry hacking cough from tickling in throat or irritability in larynx, worse morning, worse using voice. Coughs at times with dyspnea, vomiting or even involuntary escape of urine. Continued dry, hacking cough with vomiting and arrest of breathing. Dry cough at night, with dryness of throat. Coughs with much expectoration. Cough causes pain in right temple and vertex.
Ears – Sharp pain in ears, evening or night. Eustachian tube feels plugged (Kali-m.). Heat and redness of one ear. Purulent discharge. Humming, roaring. Crackling noises and buzzing in ears when chewing or swallowing. Sound as of large bells. Sensation as if something lay before ear. Buzzing as if outside ear.
Eyes - Burning pain on waking with photophobia. Chronic conjunctivitis. Eyes are inflamed, burning, agglutination at night, lachrymation during day. Hot or acrid tears. Eyes feel cold. Granular lids or chronic blepharitis. Itching in canthi and lids. Photophobia in morning. Ptosis. Strabismus. Eyelids are weak, falling. Up-per lids difficult to raise as if powerless. Eyelids thickened, dry, burning, smarting. Double squint, worse teething. Inclination to stare. Eyes better from being bathed. Eyelashes fall out.
Face - Gloomy, pale or red alternating with pale. Odd look, dusky, wrinkled. Coppery cheeks. Feels as if albuminous substance had dried on it. Sensation as if white of egg or a cobweb on face. Rush of blood to face after eating. Tearing and lancinating in malar bone. Twitching of lower jaw. Involuntary spasmodic twitching of the lower jaw. Maxillary joints feel tight, while chewing or opening mouth. Lips dry, chapped. Blood-boils and pimples. Nodules or boils on face and nose. Rubs face all the time.
Female - Menses preceded by headache, colic. Menses too early, short. Menses scanty, pale, followed by great exhaustion (Carb-an., Cocc.). Girls, dried up and wrinkled, at puberty. It takes a woman all her time to recuperate from one menstrual period to the next. Leucorrhea acrid, profuse, transparent, ropy. Acrid, corrosive leucorrhea, with burning in genitals. Leucorrhea with burning, runs to feet. Leucorrhea, worse during day time and after menses. Leucorrhea relieved by washing with cold water. Intolerable bearing down pain. Severe painful swelling in ovaries, very sensitive to touch. Painful throbbing in left side of vagina. Tickling and itching in genitals with strong sexual desire. Sexual desire decreased.
Food - Irregular appetite. No desire to eat. No appetite, food has no taste. Thirst all day. Meat has no taste. Aversion to meat (Graph., Am., Puls.). Aversion to beer.
Aversion to potatoes. Abnormal cravings for coarse food, indigestible things. Desire for starchy foods. Cravings for chalk, charcoal, dry food, clean white rags, tea or coffee grounds. Desires fruits, vegetables, dry rice. Desires cloves, acids. Desire for coffee. Worse from potatoes. Potatoes causes bitter eructation. Onions causes soreness of throat. Hypoglycemia. Worse when hungry causes trembling and weakness. Worse tobacco smoke.
Head - Headache better by lying quiet in bed. Chronic catarrh of head. Sharp, burning pain in head with vertigo, worse in morning, but relieved by food. Throbbing headache with constipation. Pressure in forehead as from a tight hat. Vertex painful to touch. Inability to walk except with eyes open. Violent sharp pains in the brain with nausea. Increased pulsation of temporal arteries. Headache, as if one were dragged by the hair. Falling of hair. Scalp itches and is numb. Itching of scalp with dry, white scales. Dry hair.
Heart - Palpitations and shocks at heart. Wakes at 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. with anxiety at heart, better after rising. Palpitations irregular, large and small beats alternate.
Kidneys – Muscles of bladder paretic, must strain at stool in order to urinate. Pain in kidneys with mental confusion, worse dancing. Frequent desire to urinate in old people with slow flow. Difficult starting. Fears he will wet the bed. Retention with dribbling. Smarting while urinating. Feeling of weakness in bladder and genitals.
Limbs - Pain in arms and fingers, as if hot iron penetrated. Arms feel heavy, as if paralyzed, short, go to sleep. Legs feel asleep, especially when sitting with legs crossed. Locomotor ataxia. Staggers on walking. Legs feel numb, especially when sitting cross-legged. Heels feel numb when stepping. Soles tender, on stepping, feels oft and swollen. Pain in shoulder and upper arm. Gnawing beneath finger nails. Brittle nails. Gnawing under nails. Spinal degeneration and paralysis of lower limbs. Festination. inability to walk except when eyes are open or in daytime. Totters if eyes were closed. Soles are painful on stepping on them, as if they were too soft and on walking. Cramps when crossing legs. Bones feel squeezed.
Liver - Soreness over liver, on stooping. Tearing pain from liver to hip. Painful sensibility of the liver on stooping, followed sometimes by shooting pains.
Lungs - Arrested breathing by copious, thick, tenacious, saltish mucus. Rattling, asthmatic breathing, worse coughing. Wheezing, with tough mucus in larynx. Sneezing interrupts breathing, worse after waking in the morning. Dyspnea, with spasmodic pains in stomach and hypochondria. Dyspnea when lying on back, better when turning onside. Getting tired from exerting voice aggravates. Hoarse, aphonia, tickling in larynx, wheezing, rattling respiration. Sudden loss of voice on taking cold.
Male - Prostatic discharge. Voluptuous itching or tickling in genitals. Pains in the perineum during sex and while erection continues. Left testicle hard and very painful. Light yellow pus from urethra, causes itching of glans penis. Priapism at night. Sensation of weakness in penis. Increased sexual desire, followed by loss of power. Involuntary emissions when straining at stool.
Modalities - Better evenings. Better open air. Better moderate exertion and temperature. Better damp weather. Better cold. Better washing. Better as day advances. Worse periodically. Mouth - Dry and sore. Musty bad odor from mouth. Gums sore, bleeding. Tensive pain in articulation of jaw when opening mouth or chewing. Mouth feels dry with increased saliva. Tingling, itching on tongue.
Nose - Disposition to head colds. Nasal catarrh with scanty secretion and obstructed nostrils. Discharge of thick yellow mucus. Pain at root of nose. Sense of smell diminished. Fluent coryza with frequent sneezing. Redness of nose. Point of nose cracked, red. Nostrils sore, worse touch. Nosebleed with pressure in forehead and congestion lo eyes. Scabs with thick yellow mucus. Tettery redness. Ozaena atrophica sicca. Membranes distended and boggy. Septum of nose swollen, red. and painful to touch.
Perspiration - Inability to perspire. Sweats at night, toward morning most profuse in face. Sweats frequently only on right side of face.
Rectum - Inactive rectum and bladder. Severe, obstinate constipation. Constipation of infants (Coll., Psor., Paraf.) and elderly people. Constipation in women of very sedentary habit. Rectum sore, dry inflamed. bleeding. Itching and burning at anus. Pulsating pain in anus. Even a soft stool is passed with difficulty. Great straining. Pains from rectum to ankle. Can only pass stool when standing. Evacuation preceded by painful urging long before stool and then straining at stool. Pressure and sense of excoriation in rectum after a small, hard stool. Hemorrhoids worse evening, better after night's rest. Diarrhea on urinating. Diarrhea, worse on alternate days. Corroding diarrhea during menses. Stools of small balls, hard knots. Stools with bright clots of blood. Hard, dry, knotty stools without desire. Stool like sheep dung. Stools covered with mucus.
Sensations - Sensation of constriction. Pulsations are felt in various parts and pains go upwards.
Skin - Dry, tottery, itching emptions, worse winter. Eczema. Dry, rough, cracked skin. Chapped and dry Tettery. itching, burning, over seat of pain. Intolerable itching when gettu1g warm in bed. Must scratch, until it bleeds. Intolerable itching with constipation. Brittle nails. Brittle skin on fingers. Veins distended. Itching and formication with flatulence. dry stools or diarrhea. Ulcerated surface secretes yellow-brown, badly smelling pus. Slightest injuries of the skin smart and become inflamed. Skin symptoms, worse winter, full and new moon.
Sleep - Sleepy in morning. Frequent waking. Sleeplessness forepart of night. Restless sleep, turns frequently, feels too warm, lies uncovered in unrefreshing slumber. Anxious, restless with confused dreams. Dreams about thieves, ghosts. Dreams of boats foundering. Nightmares. Many dreams before menses, on awaking face hot, headache and palpitation.
Stomach - Belching, sour and acrid. Heartburn, stomach feels constricted. Chronic eructation for years, worse evening. Heartburn with profuse salivation. Distension of stomach. Potatoes disagree. No desire to eat. Can swallow but small morsels at a time.Feels food, whole length of esophagus. Constriction of esophagus. Pain lasting 3 hours after meals. Nausea, with faintness. Frequent nausea and inclination to vomit. Pain, as from excoriation, in the pit of the stomach. Vomiting with hacking cough. Vomiting of food, mucus or bile.
Teeth - The teeth covered with sordes. Teeth feel long, pain extends tooth er parts down larynx, neck, shoulders.
Temperature - Chill with great thirst. Chilliness. Better open air. Shivering, even when near a fire. Chill at night, in bed, not able to warm oneself. Chill all over during stool. During the day chill, fever during the night. Heat with itching. Fever towards the evening with chilliness. Fever at night with anxiety and sweat.
Throat – Irritable and relaxed throat. Looks parched and glazed. Clergyman's sore throat in thin subjects. Dry and sore throat. Food cannot pass, esophagus contracted. Feels as if splinter or plug were in throat. Thick, tenacious mucus drops from posterior sinuses. Great dryness wlziclii11d11ces frequent clearing of throat in evening. Dry, feels full of sticks or constricted, food cannot pass. Constant inclination to clear the throat. Tightness from pharynx down to stomach as if food could not pass, can swallow but small morsels. Swallowing painful, worse solids. Better from empty swallowing, warm drinks. Elongated uvula from condiments or eating irritating things, talking or singing. Throat sore from eating onions. Uvula hangs down.
Vertigo - Vertigo in elderly people with atheromata or earthy deposits on the cerebral or cardiac arteries. Vertigo with nausea. Better after breakfast. Worse talking. on closing or opening eyes. before breakfast. Vertigo with white stars before the eyes. Eyes suddenly went out of focus, one has to wait for normal vision, better wiping eyes.
Vision - Objects look yellow. While stars before eyes. with vertigo. Dim vision obliged to wipe eyes constantly. With sensation as if lids would adhere in comers. Fiery spot. Farsighted. Dim vision as if through mist or as if feathers before eyes. Glittering vision after blowing nose.
COMMENTS - Alum. and Plb. (Lead) antidote each other in homeopathy. They are very similar m their pathologies, but Plb. is more severe and painful. The action of Alum.is slow in developing and the remedy must not be changed quickly. Teste grouped Alum. with Sep. and Cop. He considered it the chronic of Sep. as Sil. is of Puls.
A remedy for the elderly and feeble, especially in senile dementia. Pathological memory loss confusion over their own identity, slowness of mind. A lot of fears. confusion. Great general fa11gue.even af1er a short walk, but chiefly after speaking. Frequent ,1re1ching while sitting. The but-tocks go to sleep while sitting. Drags the legs, especially the lef1one.
Sensations are slow m being transmitted to the centers. Keynote delayed nervous reaction. Spinal diseases, local motor ataxias. Slow onset of nerve degeneration. Paralysis of the lower limbs with emaciation, wrinkled face and dry skin. incoordination of the limbs, loss of control of limbs. Tottering gait.
Several painful symptoms appear after the midday meal and continue until evening, when they disappear or are replaced by others which begin only then.
On theotherhand,1hepains which appear in 1hc morning or in the evening arc abated after eating.
Trembling, convulsive movements of the limbs and head, spasms with tears and laughter alternately. There is exal1ation of the whole nervous system. Trembling of the whole body with a desire to lie down.
Catarrh with dryness of mucus membranes, The throat looks parched and glazed. The nose is stopped. Feels dry and the point of ii is cracked. Alum. has the fish-bone sensation in the throat on swallowing. There is profuse leucorrhea running down to the heels, sometimes excoriating.
Itchingerup1ions, worse from warmth of bed. Eruptions of all indurations. ulcers. Granular eyelids. Hairs fall out all over body. The skin of the face feels as if covered with dried white of egg or as if a cobweb was on it. Fissures.
Severe dryness of the skin and face where the face is wrinkled, symptoms in children where the children's skin wrinkles, ages and dries out. Alum. in physical doses is a drying agent. The first symptom is that the hair dries and flakes. The skin dries, it affects the fluid balances m the body.
Burning pains in the back are common, especially a sensation as if a hot iron were forced through the lower vertebrae. There are pulsations in various parts. The pains go upward. Upper left, lower right affected (opposite of Lyc.). The symptoms arc worse on alternate days. periodically. Keynote as if a hot poker is stuck in the spine.
Another keynote is potatoes and starch disagree. especially affects constipation. Constipation of nursing children from being fed artificial food and bottle-fed babies. Aggravated by hot. dry weather, and the moon phases. Worse heat of the bed, worse after menses. Dryness without eruptions. Desires indigestible like chalk. sand, dirt (Calc., Tarant.).
