HOMEOPATHIC - Aethusa cynapium affects the brain and nervous system, connected with gastrointestinal disturbances. Keynote violent action. Violent vomiting, violent convulsions, violent pains, violent delirium. In epileptiform spasms, the thumbs are clenched. face becomes red. eyes turned downwards, pupils dilate and staring, foams at mouth. There is great weakness of mind or body.
Inability to digest milk (Nat-c.). Diarrhea, with marked aggravation from drinking milk and poor circulation. Improperly fed babies (Calc-p.). Patient cannot stand, sit up or hold the head up. Children who lack the power to hold their heads up with no particular ailment. sometimes they can't even stand or bear any weight on their limbs. Want of power to stand up. Sharp pains. Parts feel screwed together.
Weak, nervous and prostrated from overwork. Prostration with somnolence. Profound prostration and stupor and lack of reaction, even speechless. Anguish, crying and expression of uneasiness and discontent. Useful for children's summer complaints and diseases during dentition.
MIND - Mind and body become weak. Brain fatigue from over study. inability to think, to fix the attention. Awkwardness. Mental, retardation. Attention deficit. Idiotic children. Idiocy may alternate with furor and irritability. Weepy, worse as disease progresses. Stupefaction during vertigo.
Fear before sleep to close eyes lest he should never wake. Examination failure from sense of incapacity. Unable to read after overexertion of mental faculties. Restlessness, anxious and crying. Irritability, especially in open air. irritability during headache.
Feels different from other people. Re-served people with inwardly strong emotions. Feels unconnected to other people. Loners. Great sadness when alone. Lives in his own sentimental world. Loves animals talks to animals, looks after them with un natural passion.
Delirium, better perspiration. Unconscious, delirious. Fancies herself lost on waking. Hallucinations. Delusions of animals. Delirium, sees cats, dogs and rats. Wants to jump out of bed or out of the window.
Abdomen - Cold internal and external with aching pain in bowels. Colic, exhaustion and drowsiness. Colic, followed by vomiting, vertigo and weakness. Black bluish swelling, coldness of abdomen, subjective and objective with coldness of legs with aching in bowels better warm application. Bubbling sensation around navel.
Back - Small of back as if in vice, aching. Want of power to stand to hold up head. Swelling of glands around neck like string of beads. A feeling as if pain in back could be better by straightening out and bending stiffly backwards.
Chest - Crampy constriction in chest. Stitches in left side of chest.
Constitutions - Suited to infants, teething children and cholera disorders of children and the elderly.
Ears - Feel blocked, better by inserting the fingers and drawing the parts apart. Sense of something hot from ears. As if something hot steaming out. Hissing sound.
Eyes -Eyesdraw11downward. squinting, pupils dilated. Brilliant and protruding. Cornea sunken. Objects seem larger or double. Photophobia, chronic. Swelling of meibomian glands. Rolling of eyes on falling asleep.
Face - Sunken, pale, puffed, red-spotted, collapsed. Expression anxious, full of pain. Linea Asalis marked blue white pall or about the lips. puffed, spotted, red.
Female - Sharp pains in sexual organs. Pimples on external parts, itching on getting warm. Menses watery. Swelling of breasts with sharp pains.
Food - Burning thirst with total loss of
appetite. Desires wine, but aggravated from it. Intolerance of milk. Nibbling appetite. Regurgitation of food long after eating. Digestion affected from brain exhaustion.
Glands - Lymphatic glands swollen like strings of beads.
Head - Head feels confused. Head or brain feels as if bound up or in a vise. Occipital pain extending down spine, better lying down and by pressure. Head symptoms relieved by expelling flatus (Sang.), and by stool. Cannot raise head. Hair feels pulled. Squeezing headache with vertigo worse walking and looking upward. Dizzy and drowsy.
Heart - Violent palpitations with vertigo, headache and restlessness. Pulse rapid, hard and small, not rhythmical.
Kidneys - Cutting pain in bladder with
frequent urging. Pain in kidneys.
Limbs - Want of power to stand up or hold head up. Weakness of lower limbs. Fingers and thumbs bent inwards or clenched. Numbness of hands and feet. Violent spasms. Sensation as if arms had become much shorter. Heaviness, weak-ness, contraction of fingers. Excoriation of thighs on walking.
Lungs - Difficult, oppressed, anxious respiration. crampy constriction. Short breath interrupted by hiccough. Suffering renders the patient speechless. Cough causes pain in head.
Male - Right testicle drawn up with pain
in kidney.
Modalities - Better in openair. Better from walking in open air. Better by conversation and company. Worse from milk. Worse coffee. Worse wine, drunkenness. Worse frequent over eating. Worse from 3 a.m. to 4 a.m. Worse evenings. Worse warmth. Worse summer Worse warmth of bed. Worse cold water. Worse over exertion. Heat causes all eruptions to itch intolerably.
Mouth - Dryness. Aphthae in the mouth. Tongue seems too long. Burning and pustules in the throat with difficult swallowing. Speech slow, embarrassed. Speechless. Bitter taste. of onions. cheese, sweetish in morning.
Nose - Nose stopped up with much thick mucus. Herpetic eruption on tip of nose. Frequent ineffectual desire to sneeze. Alae nasi drawn in.
Rectum - Cholera infantum. child cold. clammy. stupid with staring eyes and dilated pupils. Cholera disorders in old age. Undigested, thi11, greenish stools. Preceded by colic with tenesmus followed by exhaustion and drowsiness. Yellow. green, slimy diarrhea. Obstinate constipation, feels as if all bowel action is lost.
Skin - Excoriation of thighs when walking. Easy perspiration. Surface of body covered with clammy sweat. Lymphatic glands swollen. ltcl1i11g ernptio11around joints better from heat. Skin of hands dry and shrunken. Ecchymos1s Anasarca. Whole body may be blue. black.
Sleep - Disturbed by violent starlings or cold perspiration. Dozing after vomiting or stool. Child is so exhausted. it falls asleep at once. Rolling of the eyes or sight convulsion on falling asleep. Limpness and deep sleep after vomiting, with a deathly nausea.
Stomach -Intolerance of milk, vomiting as soon as swallowed or in large curds
Hungry after vomiting. Regurgitation, about a half hour after eating. Nausea at sight of food. Painful contraction of stomach. Violent vomiting of a white frothy matter. Projectile vomiting. Vomiting of frothy matter white as milk or yellow fluid. Pyloric stenosis. Retching. Vomiting with sweat and great weakness, accompanied by anguish and distress. Followed by sleepiness. Stomach feels turned upside down with burning feeling up to the chest. Tearing pains in the stomach extending to esophagus.
Temperature - Great heat, 110 thirst. Profuse. cold sweat. Must be covered during sweat. Sweating, on slightest physical effort
Throat – Sensation of constriction. preventing swallowing. Stinging in the throat soft palate red, swollen. Pungent heat in mouth and throat.
Vertigo - Vertigo. with sleepiness. can't
raise the head. Vertigo with drowsiness with palpitatio11, head hot after vertigo ceases.
COMMENTS - Ingesting Aethusa plant matter causes severe projectile vomiting. There is also gripping with diarrhea. vomiting. crying. Guernsey said Aeth. is invaluable for adults who complain of regurgitation of food an hour after it has been taken.
Copious vomiting m adults with a great feeling of distress. can't tell what the distress is about, but it still exists. A peculiar expression of greatanxie1y and pain. Linea Asalis, a surface of pearly whiteness on upper lip bounded by distinct lines from wings of nose to angles of mouth. Inability to hold down any food. Severe spasmodic vomiting. Malassimilation. Also for vomiting during pregnancy that very spasmodic and projectile. Good for projectile vomiting, pyloric stenosis, failure to thrive in children.
Keynote - Intolerance to milk in any form. Milk allergies in children with vomiting and spasm (Nat-c., has gas. bloating and diarrhea). Vomiting of everything taken, especially milk, which is ejected in yellowish or greenish curds. Great weakness and exhaustion after vomiting, the child is so exhausted they fall asleep at once. Wakes hungry, eats and vomits again. "Hungry after vomiting."
Epilepsyin children with emaciation, mal-assimilation and failure to thrive. Epileptic spasms (Cup.), the thumbs are clenched, the head is drawn back and the eyes go down. Epilepsy with foaming, pupils fixed and dilated. Prostration and sleepiness after at-tacks. Convulsions with cold limbs.
Sensation of swelling in the head and face on entering a room, sunken cornea, and eyeballs convulsed and directed down-wards. Sensation of swelling in hands after walking. Lancinating pains. Swelling of breast or axillary glands with sharp pains. Prostration, stupid.
Tetanus. Alcoholism, with tremors, shaking, malassimilation and emaciation. Late learning to walk. Backward children with muscle weakness, stumbling, falling, late speech. Poor mental and brain development and coordination.
Characteristic inability to think or fix the attention. Stupor, in some cases alternating with a furor. Hallucinations. Delirium, sees cats and dogs. Wants to jump out of bed or out of the window. Irritability, especially in open air. Somnolence.
Clarke sent single doses of Aeth., at rare intervals with great relief, to a little child in an orphan home who suffered from severe headaches and inability to fix his attention on his lessons. The little boy asked for the remedy himself subsequently on a return of the old symptoms.
Clarke gave it to an undergraduate pre-paring for an examination with complete success. He had been compelled to give up his studies, but was able to resume them and passed a brilliant examination.
Guernsey said "The mental symptoms peculiar to children and frequently of adults, are great anguish and crying. As the disease progresses the patient becomes more and more retired in his disposition and more inclined to weep."

Antidotes: Opium, and is antidoted by vegetable acids. Teste places Aeth. in the Sulphur group with Cic., Con., Aster., Bov., Lob., Mere., Kreos.
