Abies can. has been only imperfectly proved, but it has marked symptoms which will serve to indicate it in any case of disease in which they may be prominent: Great appetite, tendency to over-eat; gnawing, hungry, faint feeling in epigastrium. According to Hale it has cured: "A light-headed feeling, attended with a gnawing, hungry, faint feeling at epigastrium, craving hunger which, if gratified, was followed by distension of the stomach and hard beating of the heart." Among the peculiar sensations are: A feeling as if the right lung and liver were small and hard; pain beneath right scapula. The patient lies with the legs drawn up. Shivering as if the blood turned to cold water.

Generalities

• It affects the Mucous Membranes and Nerves.

PHARMACY - abies-c. Abies canadensis. Hemlock Spruce. Canada pitch. Picea alba. Pinus Canadensis. Tsuga canadensis.

N.0. Coniferae. Pinaceae. Tincture of fresh bark and young buds.

Historical dose: Tincture and all potencies.

CLINICAL - Aphthous, ulcers. Burns. Chills. Cholera. Colds. Constipation. Croup. Coughs. Diarrhea. Flatulence. Gangrene. Gonorrhea. Indigestion. Leucorrhea. Liver, disorders. Night-sweat. Prolapsed, anus. Prolapsed. uterus. Rheumatism. Stomach, disorders. Uterine, displacements. Vertigo. Vomiting.

HERBAL - A strong decoction of the bark of this tree is beneficial in leucorrhea, prolapsed uterus, prolapsed anus, diarrhea, etc. administered internally, and used in enema.

It is of service as a local application in gangrene, and in aphthous. and other oral ulcerations.

The essence (oil) of hemlock is diuretic and highly stimulant. As a liniment this oil has been used in croup, rheumatism, and other affections requiring a stimulating local application.

Dr. W. K. Everson states it to be a superior remedy in gastric irritation to allay vomiting in cholera morbus, etc. The dose is 5 or IO drops in water, every 10 or 20 minutes, until relief is afforded.

It is likewise of value in passive hemorrhage, and is useful typically in scalds and burn. Generally, the panic state. with feeble digestion. vascular weakness, and pale mucus membranes. Broncho-pulmonary irritation. with profuse secretions. Coughs and cold. Renal torpor. Pyrosis and gastric 1rritauon with vomiting and diarrhea. Never to be used in inflammatory or sthenic conditions.
